PhD candidate in exercise physiology. Founder of Hoch Health & Wellness. Builder of systems that outlast the tools they run on.
Everything I do points at the same question: what is the best intervention for this person, right now, given what we actually know?
My education and efforts in science, coaching business, and consulting all work toward this end.
Americans live longer than the global median but spend more of those extra years in reduced health. The gap between total life expectancy and healthy life expectancy is 12.5 years in the United States, against 9.3 years globally.
That gap is the thing I am actually working on. Not more years. More capable ones.

My approach to any domain starts from the same conviction: knowledge is a system, not a collection of facts. You cannot hand someone a brick and expect them to envision a cathedral.
The job is to build the context in which understanding becomes possible. Constraints are not obstacles. They are productive tensions. A challenging problem, a defined structure, a set of rules that creates friction: these are the conditions where people discover things for themselves instead of being told.
That is true whether I am coaching a client through a movement pattern, designing a data pipeline, or building an AI workflow. The goal is always the same: create the architecture, then step back.
How I think
Assessment before prescription
In physiology, in coaching, in systems work: I do not assume. I identify the actual mechanism before proposing a solution.
Competence before autonomy
The goal is always to make myself unnecessary. Build genuine capability, then step away. Dependency is not a success metric.
Structure over motivation
Motivation fades. Systems persist. What you build into the environment compounds; what you rely on willpower for collapses under pressure.
Wonder and scrutiny together
Stand in awe of complexity. Also probe, test, and push back. One without the other produces either paralysis or credulity.
I have logged more than 8,000 hours coaching people through some of the most complex situations in human performance, including clients managing MS, COPD, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic pain, and rare metabolic conditions. These are systems built for real bodies under real constraints, not programs handed to healthy athletes.
In parallel, I am a PhD researcher in cardiovascular physiology, publishing peer-reviewed work on how the heart and autonomic nervous system adapt under stress, managing data from clinical trials funded by the NIH and American Heart Association, and building automated pipelines for analysis that used to require hours of manual work.
I built Hoch Consulting because three business owners came to me with the same problem: too much mechanical work, data going unused, and AI tools that kept changing under them. The answer I gave them was the same one I had applied everywhere else. Build a system around what matters, automate what does not, and make sure it lasts.
That same transition from manual execution to structured systems is what I help organizations build. The domain changes. The pattern does not.
