The papers, summaries, essays, and project notes on this site exist to explain work I have done and science I think is worth passing on. They are education, not advice for your particular situation.
I am a physiologist and a PhD candidate, not a physician. Nothing on this site diagnoses, treats, cures, or prevents any condition, and nothing here should stand in for talking to your own doctor. Before you change how you exercise, what you eat, or any medication you take, talk to a qualified clinician who knows your history. If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.
Health and wellness coaching is a separate business — Hoch Health and Wellness LLC — with its own agreements and its own policies. Nothing on this site is coaching either.
Visiting the site, emailing me, or filling in the contact form does not create a consulting, coaching, or clinical relationship. A consulting relationship begins when both of us sign an agreement, and not before.
I am affiliated with Florida State University, and that affiliation is stated here so you know who I am and where the work came from. Nothing on this site speaks for Florida State University, the American Physiological Society, any journal, or any of my coauthors and collaborators. The plain-language summaries of published papers are my own words, and simplifying always costs some nuance — the papers themselves are linked for readers to see the full picture.
What is written here reflects the evidence as I understood it when I wrote it. Findings get revised. Older pages are not rewritten every time the literature shifts.
Numbers attached to past projects describe what happened for that client, with their data, their people, and their constraints. They are a record, not a forecast, and they are not a guarantee that you would get the same outcome.
A link to another site means I thought it was worth reading, not that I vouch for everything on it.
